About i-Community

What our members think

'After recently making another big investment in IBM Power it was great coming back to the iCommunity after a few years. The opportunity to interact with other customers running IBM i facing the same strategic problems really is invaluable. Second only to iCommunity securing a guest speaker who is such a big name in the IBM i world, namely Mike Cain. It left me coming away with many ideas, very inspirational and informative time spent at the event as always.'

Nathan Rae, Parker Hannifin

'This was my first attendance at an i-Community event and the speakers from both IBM UK and IBM Rochester, USA were excellent.  In addition I have now met a community of like-minded POWER i users that I am sure I will be in contact with to share thoughts, ideas and overcome issues. An excellent use of my time and I look forward to getting a deep dive at the event in Rochester in September.'

Pete Wilson, Barclays

'The i-Community is second to none. There is no one place which can rival the quality of content delivered. I would say the i-Community is an absolute must for any business which relies on the IBM i on POWER. The quality of speakers and peer knowledge is of extreme value. To top it all, over the years,  I have achieved the added bonus of making some good friends along the way.'

Clive Griffiths, Admiral Insurance

'Joining the i-Community is a must for all IBM i professionals who want to stay informed with the latest updates and directions from IBM. The mix of speakers from IBM and Partners was well thought out and beneficial. Open discussions with other i professionals relating to experiences with new technologies is an added bonus.

IBM i

IBM i is an enduring IBM software platform, optimised for business computing, and with a built-in full-functional relational database. It currently runs on IBM's Power Systems range, but its unique architecture minimises hardware transition costs. It is easy to manage, exceptionally secure, and highly reliable, and has a low TCO. For more information, click here.

The platform has shown a quite extraordinary ability to respond to change. IBM i in 2012 is an open and integrated operating system that can and does run any combination of workloads - from web portals and social business deployments through enterprise content management and data warehousing to complex ERP environments, large scale SOA deployments and high performance, high volume, high security financial systems.

A key aim of i-Community is to help its members maximise the benefit of their investment in IBM i over time.

The community

i-Community exists to serve IBM i users in the UK. Group members obtain real benefit from sharing experiences and concerns in a peer network, and from face-to-face meetings led by top speakers.

i-Community is a non-commercial environment; it is not aimed at marketing any product or service, rather it is a non-profit-making peer group facilitated by its sponsors. Numbers of session attendees are kept low enough to permit a high level of interaction. The full annual membership subscription covers all costs for one delegate at the spring UK meeting and on the autumn Rochester visit, including the return flight to Minneapolis, with a small uplift to cover overheads. A UK-only subscription is also available.

i-Community sessions are realistic, example driven, and will typically look at the subject area from both a technical and a business viewpoint. The topics covered are chosen by the community. They cover IBM i infrastructure and development matters, but also non-IBM i-specific subjects of general interest to members, such as compliance or unified communications. Topics are occasionally led by groups of members, with an IBM representative present to handle questions. It is the organisation that is the member, not any individual, so attendees can be chosen to suit the topic.

Please click here for information about our schedule of meetings.

The community and IBM

i-Community has the full backing of both IBM UK and the IBM Rochester Laboratories, and can attract top IBM speakers to its meetings. The group's active two-way communication channel with the Laboratories allows the strategic and day-to-day concerns of UK IBM i users to be heard.

Confidential disclosure

Each member organisation must sign a Confidential Disclosure Agreement with IBM Rochester, permitting IBM speakers to share futures information with the group. Information provided at meetings can be shared with other permanent employees of the member organisation, and presentation materials are made available for download on the same basis.
